Manual & Plans available: Small Scale poultry housing in Africa
With renewed interest in and focus on small-scale poultry farming in South Africa some years ago, the ARC Agricultural Engineering unit set about the task to compile a comprehensive manual on housing facilities and equipment needed for small-scale poultry production.
It covers production facilities for broilers for meat production and that for layers for the production of eggs. Issues like general planning of the production system, brooder chick production and building materials and methods are also discussed.
The aim of this manual and all data within is to provide the reader with information on basic low-cost construction materials and methods, as well as equipment needed for poultry houses. Even though the cost figures are now somewhat outdated, it still provides good guidance to the poultry business entrepreneur that can be used to compile costings and financial applicable to his/her own particular business environment.
The indicative cost of a pdf version of this publication is around USD 6.
