Nulandis launches single-dose range in Malawi
In a first-for-Africa, the Nulandis single-dose range has been launched by Farmers Organisation Limited (FOL) to meet the unique needs of smallholder growers in Malawi. Specially designed to address issues regarding accuracy, affordability, and quality and safety, the single-dose packs come in a variety of sizes. Each is measured for use in knapsack sprayers – the preferred means of applying agrochemicals among Malawi’s smallholder growers.
The Nulandis range includes biostimulants, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides, as well as a novel twin pack that addresses resistance to agrochemicals caused by poor water quality and sub-lethal dosing.
Nulandis Twin pack – Bladbuff 20ml/Cyperin 20ml
Bladbuff treats water quality and Cyperin is a pyrethroid insecticide that needs to be applied at a very low pH. The Bladbuff is added to the knapsack to address the water quality, followed by the Cyperin.
Some agrochemicals come in smaller pack sizes, like 100ml or 200ml bottles. But, they are still too expensive for smallholder growers who are very price sensitive. Similarly, the small volumes that are needed for knapsack sprayers are hard to measure when decanting from bigger, bulkier packs – leading to inaccuracy and quality issues. For example, ‘Agro-dealers’ have a tendency of helping smallholder growers by decanting agrochemicals into bottles and jars, diluting their efficacy in the process. This means farmers receive a poor-quality product.
In line with application protocols, the Nulandis single-dose packs come in 20ml, 25ml and 40ml pouches, precisely measured for 20-litre knapsack sprayers.
As such, they increase access to world-class agrochemicals – that are normally the preserve of commercial farmers – as well as being affordable and convenient. They are also specially sealed, so challenges regarding integrity and quality are removed.
Finally, safety is improved because there are no open bottles of agrochemicals, which could pose a risk to young children. The business has invested in the necessary packaging technology at its site in Lilianton.
A marketing campaign is in full swing in Malawi, and Nulandis will also be launching the range in other neighbouring countries.
Although the range is currently focused on ‘soft’ chemistry, more products are in the pipeline. The single-dose range has been applauded by industry stakeholders, especially NGOs that are actively engaged in empowering smallholder growers – the largest agricultural community in Africa.
