A Jooste Cylinder is environmentally friendly by using wind energy instead of electricity and requires extremely light operating power and therefore produces more water than a normal cylinder, with less effort. The cylinder is manufactured from modern materials such as stainless steel and polyurethane which causes less electrolytic corrosion on galvanised pipes. The Jooste Cylinder can handle sand better than other cylinders and has its own unique Jooste Foot Valve. Cylinder parts are readily available and are colour coded for easy identification, according to size (50mm brown, 60mm yellow, 70mm purple, 80mm green and 100mm orange).
There are two series of Jooste Cylinders namely the standard AS cylinder and the deep borehole RDS cylinder which is designed for boreholes with a total head of more than 60 meters. The newly designed, low friction, Jooste hand pump requires less human power to operate, making it possible for children to also efficiently pump water. As the Jooste hand pump is, predominately, made out of galvanised steel it is low maintenance, robust and durable. A Jooste AS50S cylinder is used in conjunction with the Jooste hand pump.
The base plate completely seals the borehole, preventing the access of dust, impurities, rodents etc. and stops the ingress of contaminants such as human or animal faecal matter during flooding. A unique ‘drop-stop’ system prevents the main shaft from dropping down the borehole.
The Jooste hand pump can lift water 10 meters above the surface from a depth of 60 meters and can also be used to pump out of rivers, streams and canals.
Millions of people living in Africa do not have access to safe drinking water. Contaminated water, dehydration, poor sanitation/hygiene causes the deaths of numerous people each and every day.
