Intelekt Solutions with InteliChem
To verify certain suggested solutions, and to afford the opportunity to test different products and programmes for the benefit of our clients, InteliGro invested in the Intelekt Solutions concept, where scientific trials support our technical advice. This is important in a market with an oversupply of different products and opinions.

InteliGro undertook a study tour in 2019 to the Sandveld, where potato growers and InteliGro Crop Solution Specialists from all over South Africa met to discuss the opportunities and challenges of potato production in RSA. Field visits to different farms gave an insight into the challenges Sandveld growers face. The variance in micro-climate temperatures in a radius of only a few kilometres and the very sandy texture of the soil are but two of these challenges.

Intelekt Solutions Maize day
At the Intelekt Solutions Maize day, held in 2019, growers, key suppliers and InteliGro Crop Solution Specialists from diverse maize-producing areas gathered to visit InteliGro’s trial site at Viljoenskroon. This trial site focuses on scientific and technical solutions supportive to technical advice and crop solutions. It reflects the challenges and circumstances maize growers find themselves in and strives to practically assist in optimising yields and risk mitigation. Many challenges were discussed, including the effect of climate on the crop. Drought conditions, high temperatures, the presence of weeds that are difficult to control, such as the Conyzaspp (Eng. Fleabane/Afr. Skraalhans) during the time of planting, extra cultivating practices, late summer rains, frost and warm units are all factors to take into account in a difficult year such as this one.

Specific anti-resistance strategies where glyphosate is a problem were also discussed. Other issues, including different cultivation practices to create unfavourable conditions for weed germination, herbicide tank mixtures, narrower row widths, cover crop strategies and crop rotation, were highlighted.
