Agribusiness Congress Zambia

More than 200 attendees show their commitment to Zambian agribusiness.

Thank you for being part of the AgriBusiness Congress Zambia and for making the event a resounding success!

More than 200 attendees from 11 countries showed their commitment to Zambian agribusiness by attending the inaugural AgriBusiness Congress in Lusaka, Zambia on the 5th and 6th of September. As the organisers were would like to thank our sponsors and exhibitors and an immense gratitude to the staff at the ZNFU our hosting partner.

Keynote addresses were delivered by the Hon. Dr. Guy Scott, Vice President of Zambia; Hon. Luxon Kazabu, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Graham Rae, 2nd Vice President, ZNFU.

The Congress afforded Zambia the opportunity to unlock the potential that lies in agricultural production, processing, marketing, extension services and research and development. Opening the two day technical and investment forum Dr. Scott said that government policy was focusing on encouraging long term investment.

The greatest potential for increasing agricultural production in the southern African region – if not the whole continent, lies in Zambia. Zambia's agricultural sector has the potential to feed over 200 million people in the region through its abundant land and water resources. It is the only country land-linked to eight southern African countries, which provides immense potential for accessing regional markets for agricultural commodities.

Speaking at the event Standard Banks, Head of Agriculture, Mohit Arora said "African agriculture is set for unprecedented growth as consumer demand increases and agriculture is expected to feature as one of the major driving forces of in the economic African resurgence driven by the word increasing affluent population". Mr. Arora said Africa has seen an increase in private equity companies that are investing aggressively in the agricultural sector with more than 45 private equity investors targeting the agricultural value chain and that we could see a doubling of African agricultural output in the next decade.
